Who makes the best Chenin Blanc in Australia?The Swan Valley Winemakers Association is inviting all Australian Chenin Blanc producers to participate in the inaugural Australian Chenin Blanc Challenge to be held in the Swan Valley at Mandoon Estate Winery on Wednesday 4 November 2020.
The aim of the Chenin Blanc Challenge is to bring together the best Australian Chenin Blanc and to celebrate, improve and encourage the quality and diversity of Chenin Blanc wines. The Chenin Blanc Challenge stamps Australia as a renowned Chenin Blanc producing country alongside the Loire Valley of France and South Africa.
The judging panel will be chaired by Cath Oates. Cath will be joined by an experienced panel of judges including Emma Farrelly, Erin Larkin and Ann Marie Tamburri.
The winner of the Australian Chenin Blanc Challenge will be awarded the Best Australian Chenin Blanc Trophy at a media and trade tasting to be held at the State Buildings in Perth, Western Australia on 5 November 2020.
Grape vines have been grown in the Swan Valley since 1829, making it Australia’s second oldest wine region. Chenin Blanc has long been the most widely planted white grape variety in the region and annually the Swan Valley crushes around a third of Australia’s Chenin Blanc.
We are looking forward to giving our experienced judges the difficult job to find Australia’s best Chenin Blanc, particularly given the wide array of wine styles it is capable of producing, from sparkling to dry and textured to sweet.
President of the Swan Valley Winemakers Association Garth Cliff recognises the rising popularity of the beautiful Chenin Blanc’s being made globally and the Association is proud to launch this initiative to add to this momentum with a wine competition dedicated to this great grape.
The Australian Chenin Blanc Challenge will be an annual event open to all Australian winemakers and producers.
